Privacy Policy
Effective September 3, 2026
Review copy: this is the existing in-app policy, reproduced for website review before public launch.
Information we collect
When you create an account and use also into, we collect:
- Account information: your name, username, email address, and optional profile photo
- Content you create: posts, reviews, ratings, and library items you add
- Social connections: the people you follow, your friends, and your close friends list
- Device information: push notification token so we can deliver notifications to your device
- Camera and photos: only when you grant permission; used for barcode scanning and setting a profile picture
- Date of birth: entered once at sign-up to confirm you are 18 or older. We keep only the year you were born, never the full date, and you cannot change it afterwards. We keep the year, rather than discarding it after the check, because it is also what we would use to decide which ads you see if we switch advertising on later. No ads are shown today.
- Gender: optional, asked once during setup and easy to skip. Used only to choose which ads you see. Never shown on your profile, and you can change or remove it any time in Settings.
- Location: only if you choose to add one to your profile. It is a place name you type in, not GPS, and it lets other people find you.
We do not collect precise location, browsing history outside of also into, or any financial information.
How we use your information
Almost everything we collect serves one purpose: making also into work for you and your friends.
- Showing your posts and library to people you have chosen to share with
- Sending you notifications about activity from your friends
- Recommending content based on what you and people in your circle have enjoyed
- Keeping your account secure and preventing abuse
Two things are exceptions, and we would rather say so plainly than have you find out later. The year you were born, and your gender if you choose to give it, are kept for advertising we do not yet run — the section below explains exactly how they would be used. And also into is free today, but we intend to offer paid features in future; if you take one up, we will need to record that you have it. Neither of these changes anything you can see right now.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Advertising is covered in its own section below.
Services we rely on
also into is built on a small set of trusted infrastructure providers:
- Supabase: our database and authentication provider. Your account data and content is stored on Supabase infrastructure.
- Expo / Apple Push Notification Service: used to deliver push notifications to your device.
- Sentry: receives crash reports and error diagnostics so we can fix problems. These can include your account identifier.
- Stripe: used only to verify identity for the Verified badge, and only if you request it. Stripe receives the identity document you submit; we do not see or store it.
- Content APIs: we query third-party databases to fetch information about media titles — TMDB for films and TV, IGDB and RAWG for games, Spotify for music and podcasts, and Hardcover and Google Books for books. These searches are sent through our own server rather than from your device, so those services do not receive your device, your address or your account. We do not share your personal data with them.
- Giphy: if you search for a GIF in a chat, the words you type are sent to Giphy so it can return matching images. Giphy is owned by Meta. As with the content databases above, the request goes through our server, so Giphy does not receive your device, your address or your account — but the words you type do reach it.
What others can see
also into is a social app, so some of your content is visible to others — and some of it is visible to people who do not have a also into account at all. This section explains exactly which is which.
If your account is public, which is the default:
- Your profile card — your name, username, bio and photo — can be seen by anyone on the internet, including people who have never signed up. This is deliberate: it is what makes a link to your profile work when you send it to a friend who has not joined yet.
- Posts you share with everyone can also be seen by anyone on the internet, including the title, your rating and any note you wrote.
- Because these pages are public, search engines may index them, and your profile could appear in search results.
If you turn on Private account in Settings → Privacy:
- Your profile and your posts are hidden from people without a also into account entirely.
- Only followers you have approved can see your posts.
In every case, whether your account is public or private:
- Close Friends posts are only ever visible to the people on your Close Friends list.
- Lists are visible to anyone only if you mark the list public. Lists you have not marked public are not.
- Your library, your collections and the comments you write are only ever visible to signed-in also into users, following the same rules as the profile or post they belong to. They are never visible to someone without an account.
- Your email address, your date of birth, your gender, your ad preferences and your account settings are never visible to anyone else, on also into or off it.
One exception, and it is worth stating plainly: if someone reports a post, a comment or a message, a copy of that content is kept with the report so it survives being deleted, and a moderator reads it. Today there are two moderators, both founders. This applies to direct and group messages if a message is what was reported — a private conversation is private from other users, not from a review that someone in it asked for.
We never share your email address, device token, or any information not described above with other users.
Ads in also into
also into does not currently show any ads. The rest of this section describes how advertising would work if we turn it on, and what we would and would not use to choose what you see. We are telling you now rather than later so nothing about it is a surprise, and we will say so in the app before any ad appears.
While personalised ads are on, we use your age — derived from the birth year you gave at sign-up — and your gender, if you have chosen to tell us in Settings, to decide which ads you see. We never ask for your gender when you join, and leaving it blank is fine. If you turn personalised ads off, you see untargeted ads instead. We never use your library, your ratings, or who you follow to choose ads.
We do record which ads were shown to you and which ones you tapped, linked to your account. That is how we tell an advertiser whether a campaign worked, and how we avoid showing you the same ad over and over. Advertisers receive totals only — never your identity and never your activity.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not currently share it with advertising networks — every ad in also into today is one we sold ourselves and chose on your own phone. If that ever changes we will say so here before it happens, and where the law gives you the right to opt out, the Ad preferences setting is how you use it.
The personalised-ads setting is on when you create an account and can be turned off at any time in Settings → Account Info → Ad preferences. While no ads are shown it changes nothing you can see. Turning it off deletes the gender you gave us, and if ads are ever switched on you would see untargeted ones instead — never more ads, and never fewer features.
Your data, your control
You can delete your also into account at any time from Settings > Account Info > Delete Account. When you delete your account, your profile, posts, and library are permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.
You may also contact us directly to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data.
Age requirements
also into is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account, and the app is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.
Updates to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as also into evolves. When we make meaningful changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, the following applies to you under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR.

Ads and your choices
You can turn personalised ads on or off at any time in Settings → Account Info → Ad preferences. It is on when you create an account, and turning it off deletes the gender you gave us.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are used in the California Consumer Privacy Act. We have not done so in the past twelve months. If we begin to, we will update this policy first and honour opt-out requests, including the Ad preferences setting in the app.
Any ads you see today are chosen by us, inside also into, using only what you told us directly — your birth year and anything you volunteered about yourself. Today we do not use what you watch, read, play or listen to to choose ads, and we do not pass your information to advertising networks or data brokers. We may work with advertising partners in future; if we do, this section will be updated to say who and what they receive before any information reaches them.
If you are in California, Texas, or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you also have the right to know what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of targeted advertising. The Ad preferences switch is that opt-out. For the others, email us and we will action it.
